I hope this review can save another family from going through what we have been through… I can honestly say that trusting in this company is one of the biggest regrets of my life. I cannot attest to their finished product because we fired them from our job and were left to clean up their mess. We felt deliberately misled and taken advantage of. We hired RMR to complete a large addition to our home and make our daylight basement a walk out basement. We hired an engineer and got a complete set of extensively detailed plans. I’m not sure if RMR didn’t know how to read the plans, or if they intentionally disregarded them. They poured a large concrete patio behind our home, and we had to spend thousands eight months later cutting the new concrete out to pour an additional foundation wall along the back of our home to address a frost depth issue. The really frustrating thing is that we knew it would be an issue, but we didn’t know it was addressed on the plans from the engineer. Before they poured the concrete, we asked REPEATEDLY whether there was anything that needed to be done to address the frost depth issue, but we just got brushed off. See photos below After we fired them, we had to completely demo all the framing they had done because it was structurally so poorly built. Because of the huge hit this company put in our bank account, we did most of the demo ourselves instead of hiring it out. There was one wall that was built with the original house that we demoed for the addition. We could tell a HUGE difference in that one wall and the stability of the framing compared to what RMR had completed. That wall was way more structurally secure and it took us much longer to demo that one wall built with original house, then it did to demo the framing that RMR completed. RMR also did not follow the engineered plans for the roof of our overbuild. There was one trusse that they didn’t use at all and some large beams that were installed wrong (too high, and not according to plan) and upside down! These errors resulted in the roofline of the new deck and addition to not line up correctly with our existing home. RMR did express that they desired to continue our job and fix the errors, but we had lost all faith in the quality of their work, and their truthfulness with us. He talks a good game, and rattles on about integrity, but his actions don’t match with his words. We learned the hard way to check the state’s website for the correct licenses and for any actions against them for all contractors that you are considering hiring. Check public records and look for settlements against them, and DOPL’s website has documents if there are actions (like probation) against them. We also now consider it a red flag if they need a qualifier for the business license and don’t hold it themselves. Just do your homework, and I don’t mean look up and read reviews, because we had a terrible experience, despite all the glowing reviews we read for this company beforehand.

My spouse and I hired Rocky Mountain Remodeling to demo out our kids closets that the previous owner slapped together rather poorly, and rebuild new ones. Chris was absolutely great to work with! We loved his creativity in helping us to build a design that worked for our kids bedrooms that was spacious, and up to Utah code standards, but more importantly, functional and aesthetically pleasing and cost effective We HIGHLY recommend working with them for your remodeling needs!!

If you want someone who clearly doesn’t know what they’re doing and will make a mess of your project and wreck your valuable house then hire Chris/RMR. And if you want someone who says things, but doesn’t follow through at all and claims to be present all the time, but hardly is then Chris is the guy. We never got to the point of finish work as he made such a mess of everything else, so we had to terminate them, but maybe he’s good at finishing basements or something. Biggest mistake of my life, don’t make the same! Hiring Chris/RMR was an absolute nightmare and something we'll continue to pay for long after we can finish fixing the disaster he created of our home. We had a large addition project that was a significant investment and unfortunately quickly realized that Chris was in way over his head. Instead of following the detailed engineered plans, he seemed to make it up as he went along as either didn’t understand the plans or chose not to follow them. I could write pages to detail all the issues, but the bottom line for RMR/Chris is this: poor communication and organization, lack of consistent work presence, fraudulent/deceptive practices (blatantly misrepresenting himself as general contractor, but not correctly licensed; nickel and dime throughout after not including many things initially), doesn’t take accountability/responsibility for errors/delays, negligence by not following plans and overall lack of quality workmanship creating ‘multiple and compounded construction errors’ per the state licensing bureau and construction commission. Unfortunately, there are many shady contractors in Utah and it’s hard to know who is who, especially as someone like Chris talks a good game and acts like he knows what he is doing and seems genuine, but either it is ignorance or an act. My advice: Be warned and run away quickly! And check the state database. Good luck

If you like paying extra for a partially completed job of sloppy quality, these are the guys to use. We got a quote from Chris and Victor to finish our basement, move our stairs, and finish our master bathroom. The original quote didn’t include flooring material, electrical, plumbing, permits, and insulation. After getting separate quotes for these 5 items and adding them together, their quote came in the lowest out of all the general contractors we talked to. We even double checked via text to make sure we were on the same page before we started the project. Throughout the project, Chris informed us of multiple items that weren’t on the original quote including bathroom fans and installation, doorknobs, a pony wall, shower installation, shower materials, wet bar countertop installation, vanity counter countertop installation, shower door, 1 of the 4 doors, handrail installation and many others. These weren’t changes. The original plan was never to not have bathroom fans or doorknobs, but Chris insisted we either pay for these items out of pocket or pay him extra. While we agree the original quote didn’t include most of these items it was very frustrating since we just got a quote to “finish our basement” and didn’t realize it might be our responsibility to ensure everything was on it. With everything extra, Chris and Victor ended up being more expensive than more experienced contractors. If they provided quality work, it would have been worth paying the extra price, but they didn’t. They drywalled over our main water shutoff and drain clean-out and I had to find, cut the hole, buy an access door from Lowe’s, and install it myself. They were often unprepared and needed to borrow tools to get work done for the day and then if they did return the tools, they were dirty or covered in paint. They often didn’t show up on time and some days didn’t show up at all. For example, they would say or text “We’ll work on X tomorrow” and then wouldn’t even show up the next day. I understand delays happen, but the project took much longer than quoted because they just weren’t here very often. As for the sloppy work, the flooring they installed is wavy and moves up and down as you walk on it, multiple walls aren’t square, they left paint, mud, and grout on our furniture, carpet, garage, lawn, windows, porch, hose, and even vacuum, requiring many hours of cleaning. In our master bathroom shower they used multiple colors of grout, the drain isn’t square with the wall, and it’s not level. After a few days, the tile grout started flaking and chipping. We brought in a professional tile expert, and he said that the grout was probably mixed with too much water and the entire tile floor would need to be replaced. We are now in the process of replacing our brand-new tile shower because this company doesn’t know what they are doing. Out of everything we had them do from framing, drywall, mudding, painting, tile, door installation, and more, the only thing we felt was done at a professional level was the drywall and mudding. Chris and Victor did a good job at texturing our basement and matching it to the upstairs. In the end, we regret using this company (including having our shower tile torn out and replaced) and are still working to finish our project after paying more than quoted.
